Conceptual Art

4 group sessions in Amsterdam, presentation in New York.

Esther Hovers is an international regocnized artist and expert in visualising complex and abstract matters. She gives with her art-work, insight into processes that are not visible but that determine our behaviour. Because she doesn't photograph a direct physical object, she therefore has to approach her subjects conceptually.

Esther Hovers guides you in the execution of your photo project in four meetings and through personal one-on-one online sessions. She is closely involved and will give you personal advice so that you can take concrete steps.

This training is for everybody who wants to work intensively and for a longer time on projects and who is looking for more depth.

Esther helps you with:

  • approaching your project from multiple perspectives.
  • structuring your project.
  • creating a cohesive visual story and sharpen your own visual language.

  • designing all your products: videos, book, website, cards, texts, etc.

  • financing your project through crowdfunding, grant applications, writing and generating media attention.

Esther Hovers visual artist

Esther Hovers was trained as a photographer at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), but also makes installations in which photos, drawings, text, prints and film play an equal role. She presents these in spatial installations that fuse the different aspects of her research. During this process she attaches great importance to the different materials with which she works. Those layers are inherent to her research; they call for an equally layered completion of the project. That is why she opts for all kinds of combinations of printing techniques, formats and paper types.

In her artistic practice, Esther Hovers investigates how power, politics and control are exercised through urban planning and the use of public space. She was trained as a photographer but creates installations in which photographs, drawings, text and film play an equal part.

Esther Hovers has exhibited at Aperture Foundation in New York City; Lianzhou Photo Festival in China; and Foam Photography Museum of Amsterdam, et al. Her work has been published in The New York Times; The Washington Post; M – Le Magazine du Monde and Wired, among other publications.

In 2017 she was the winner of the Edward Steichen Award. In 2019 Hovers was an artist-in-residence at NARS Foundation (The New York Art Residency and Studios) in Brooklyn, New York.
